Can I be seen without a physician's referral?
In the state of Georgia you may be seen by a physical
therapist for an initial evaluation without a doctor's
referral. After the evaluation, if the physical
therapist determines that you would benefit from
physical therapy you will need to obtain a referral
from a physician to continue with physical therapy.
The referral for physical therapy can come from
your primary care doctor, a specialist, dentist,
osteopath, OB-GYN, and chiropractor. Your therapist
will send their findings to your physician as well
as progress notes throughout the course of your
therapy.
What should I wear to my Physical Therapy, Pilates
or Gyrotonic® Session?
You should wear clothes that you feel comfortable
moving in. Sweat pants, workout shorts, and t-shirts
are all perfectly acceptable. Pilates and Gyrotonic®
exercises are done in bare or sock feet. However,
for Physical Therapy session we request you bring
or wear you athletic shoes.

How
long is a typical treatment?
Treatment times will vary depending on your particular
needs. Typical treatment is 1- hour; however, the
time of treatment is agreed upon by the therapist
and patient and varies from 30-90 minutes of one-on-one
care.
How long will it be before I feel better?
This is the million dollar question. In our experience
most patients notice a change in their bodies after
2-3 sessions, some as soon a just one session.
How
long will I need to come for Physical Therapy?
The length of a physical therapy treatment plan
is highly individualized and depends on the specific
diagnosis of each patient. The physical Therapist
and the patient will discuss the projected length
of treatment on the first visit following the
initial evaluation.
What happens after I finish my physical
therapy?Upon
completion of your plan of care, in addition to
continuing with a home program, some individuals
find it beneficial to continue with Pilates and
Gyrotonic® private or semi-private sessions
at ABove Physical Therapy. This will allow you
to continue the strengthening and healing process
as well as maintain the benefits you attained
during physical therapy.
Who
can benefit from Pilates and Gyrotonic® Exercise?
Pilates and Gyrotonic® exercises are for everyone.
By nature the equipment is so versatile that it
can be modified to meet the needs of each individual.
One of the many benefits of this kind of work
is that you can take what you learn about your
body through these unique exercise forms and apply
that awareness to better support your body throughout
