GYROTONIC®, developed by Juliu
Horvath is an innovative and fascinating form
of exercise that increases your strength,
flexibility, and stamina. Gyrotonic® comes
from the word "gyro" meaning spiral
or circle and "tonic" meaning to
tone or invigorate. This unique system incorporates
movement principles from swimming, yoga, gymnastics,
dance and martial arts. This apparatus is
designed for individuals to exercise with
a spine centered approach. This is reflected
in the dynamic multidirectional movements.
Fluid circular movements allow the individual
to exercise musculature while articulating
the joints. With the body continuously supported
by the equipment, either in lying or sitting
positions, the client moves through a series
of rhythmical, low impact exercises, specifically
designed to gradually stretch and strengthen
the musculature, improve articulation of the
joints and spine and build abdominal strength
to enhance core support, balance and stability.
Breathing patterns are synchronized with the
exercises to stimulate the nervous and cardiovascular
systems. Exercises can be performed at various
speeds and resistances for real sport simulation.

GYROTONIC® for Golf
Gyrotonic® has gained popularity with
golfers such as Tiger Woods because of its
many benefits. Gyrotonic assists golfers by
improving flexibility, endurance, and power
which translates to improved performance in
their game. The design of the equipment itself
guides the body to move in 3-dimensions, making
it a natural fit with the golf swing. ABove
Physical Therapy’s Gyrotonic® instructors
will work with you and your golf pro to address
the current issues with your swing.
Why
is GYROTONIC® Exercise equipment better
than Gym Machines?
Most conventional exercise machines employ
linear and isolated movement patterns which
create uncoordinated strength. The Gyrotonic
Expansion System® promotes multiple
joint articulations creating coordinated
power in the muscles. By moving in connected,
natural patterns, the body flows smoothly
from one movement to the next bringing balance
and support to the musculoskeletal system.
The Gyrotonic Expansion System® can
relieve muscle stress, increase body awareness
andstrength, create ease and efficiency
of movement, and provide an overall sense
of well being.
Benefits
of the Gyrotonic Expansion System®:
• Increases flexibility and range
of motion
• Improves breathing, concentration
and posture
• Develops profound core body strength
• Releases stress and tension in the
body
• Stretches and strengthens musculature
• Develops body alignment awareness
• Enhances balance and stability
• Reconditions the nervous system
• Improves circulation and enhances
cardiovascular conditioning
• Develops coordination
• Creates a balanced support system
for the skeleton
• Improves athletic performance in
all sports, especially golf & tennis
• Aids in the prevention of injuries
• Develops balanced strength by integrating
major muscle groups
• Eliminates or reduces muscular discomfort
and joint pain
GYROTONIC® Sessions
Each session is tailored to the specific
needs and goals of the client. Gyrotonic®
instructors can focus on increasing range
of motion in particular areas of the body,
rehabilitating an injury, bringing relaxation
and strength to the body, or activity-specific
training such as dance, martial arts, or
a particular sport. Sessions are taught
one-on-one with the instructor or in semi-private
format where two individuals can exercise
simultaneously.
