Dry Needling is a therapy technique performed by a licensed practitioner utilizing one or many thin filament needles inserted into the muscle or soft tissue, such as tendons and ligaments, to release muscle tension and pain. Additionally, it is used to stimulate the healing process to positively effect dry needling therapy rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries and muscle dysfunction.

Among its many benefits, dry needling has been shown to be an effective treatment for plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and golfer’s elbow.

How is Dry Needling different than Acupuncture?

Dry needling similar to acupuncture only in that it uses the same thin needles as tools for treatment. However, its approach and intention is based on modern scientific studies of musculoskeletal systems and neuroanatomy.

The insertion of the needle is generally not felt, but there may be a slight cramping sensation experienced when a muscle is stimulated. There may also be soreness after treatment similar to having worked the muscle during exercise.
