The physical therapy modality of strain and counterstrain is a very gentle manipulation of soft tissue.
Using this technique, the therapist can effectively “liberate” the connective tissue and muscles causing the body pain.
The therapists uses a series of precise positions which are then held anywhere from 90 seconds to 3 minutes. This causes the involved tissue to relax and reduces the pain.
Strain and counterstrain has been used by physical therapists successfully for over 40 years.
